Garmin Handheld Simulator Mode

Hopefully you will see this picture change.  It represents the steps to put a Garmin handheld GPS into simulator mode.  Each model varies, but with the exception of the eTrex mode, they are all similar.  The Lowrance models also offer a simulator mode, but the method of operation is different.

  1. From the GPS page, select Start Simulator.

  2. Choose New Location.

  3. Choose Use Map

  4. Move the use the cursor and zoom buttons to find the place.  When you have the GPS in the desired location, press ENTER.

  5. The touchpad controls the speed and track on the compass page.  Up and down to change the speed.  The GPS will automatically navigate, but using the left and right modes of the touchpad will allow you to manually control the track.  On some aviation receivers such as the Garmin GPS 196, the out and in buttons change the altitude.
