Excel Time Calculation Sheet

This is a quick Excel sheet that I came up with to do some time calculations.

The difference between VOR radials and GPS directions

This is covered in Cockpit GPS.  Mostly, this really has operational significance when using the OBS mode.  For the most part, this only creates a curiosity as to why the GPS course does not match the VOR radial for a route segment.

Descent Calculator (VNAV Whiz Wheel)

This is a circular calculator I developed for descent planning on non-FMS types of jets.  This file includes the explanation.  Its just a simple circular wheel with an altitude scale on the outside and a rotating inner wheel with a bi-directional mileage scale at 3nm per 1000 ft.  There is also a table correlating speed and descent rate.  The graphics aren't perfect-- it was somewhat of a kludge to create.  Also, it might not be that useful to general aviation pilots.

Descent Calculator without explanation

This is the VNAV Whiz Wheel without the explanation.

If you have a Garmin 400 series or are considering one, you might find this amusing and might find a tip or two.  This might also be of use if you are a Flight Simulator fan flying with the Garmin 400 using FSGarmin 430.
